Qstatin is a potent SmcR inhibitor in V. vulnificus. with IC50 of 208.9 nM, shows pan-QS (quorum sensing) inhibitor activity in diverse Vibrio species; binds tightly to a putative ligand-binding pocket on SmcR, the LuxR homologue in V. vulnificus, and affects expression of QS-regulated genes.QStatin attenuates representative QS-regulated phenotypes in various Vibrio speciesbinds tightly to a putative ligand-binding pocket in SmcR and changes the flexibility of the protein, thereby altering its transcription regulatory activity. QStatin may be a sustainable antivibriosis agent useful in aquacultures.
